About this trip

This four-day trip is for fit walkers who want a short Mount Kenya summit attempt and a wildlife day near Nanyuki. The route follows the Sirimon side to Old Moses and Shipton's Camp, then starts before dawn for Point Lenana (4,984 m) and descends toward Old Moses. The final day is reserved for Ol Pejeta Conservancy and the road transfer to Nairobi.

The compact schedule reaches high altitude quickly and includes a demanding summit-and-descent day. The summit is not guaranteed; the guide may turn the group around for weather, altitude symptoms or safety. Conservancy entry and optional conservation experiences are confirmed against the current tariff in your quote.

Drier Mount Kenya trekking windows are usually January-February and July-September; high-altitude weather can change quickly.

Day 1 · up to 3300 m

Nairobi to Old Moses Camp (3,300 m)

Drive from Nairobi at 0800 hrs from your hotel and transfer to Nanyuki arriving after 3 hours. Later transfer to Sirimon gate and hike to Old Moses camp for overnight (3300m), 3 to 4 hrs hikes (9kms). Old Moses camp is where you acclimatize as you also come across different vegetation.

Day 2 · up to 4200 m

Old Moses Camp to Shipton's Camp (4,200 m)

After an early breakfast, you’ll begin trekking towards Shipton’s Camp, a significant altitude jump that requires a steady pace and hydration. The trail takes you through moorland and high-altitude landscapes, offering breathtaking views of rugged peaks, valleys, and alpine flora like giant lobelias and groundsel plants. From Mackinder’s Valley, where you’ll encounter dramatic rock formations and occasional sightings of mountain hyraxes and sunbirds. You’ll reach Shipton’s Camp (4,200m)

Day 3

Shiptons camp-Lenana Summit-Old Moses camp-Drive to Nanyuki hotel

Leave at 3 am up a steep stony quarry that cuts through a cliff clearing visible part towards lower Hall Tarns arriving point Lenana at 6:30am, taking about 3hrs. After the sunrise, descend down to Shipton Camp, 2hrs, for breakfast and further, 4hrs, down to Old Moses Camp for lunch after your driver will pick you and drop off to a nanyuki hotel for the next day Ol Pejeta conservancy safari

Day 4

Ol Pejeta game drive and return to Nairobi

After breakfast, take a game drive in Ol Pejeta and look for the conservancy's wildlife and rhino-protection work. Optional conservation encounters have separate availability and fees. Drive to Nairobi after the visit.

KWS currently lists Mount Kenya National Park non-resident adult entry at USD 70 per day; resident, regional and child rates differ. Your quote should state the number of park days and whether entry is included. Ol Pejeta's 2026 tariff guide lists non-resident adult entry at USD 110 per day. Visitor category, vehicle charges and optional experiences affect the total; confirm whether entry is included.
