Ruaha National Park Camping Safari
Tanzania's largest, most remote park with exceptional predator viewing and huge elephant herds.
Overview
Discover Tanzania's largest and most remote national park on a 4-day camping safari that few tourists ever experience. Ruaha's rugged landscape of baobab-studded hills, river valleys, and open plains hosts one of East Africa's greatest concentrations of elephants and predators -- including large lion prides, leopards, cheetahs, and endangered African wild dogs. The park sits at the ecological crossroads of East and Southern Africa, creating unique species overlap you won't find anywhere else.
Highlights
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Fly from Dar es Salaam or Arusha to Ruaha (or drive from Iringa, 130km). After settling into camp and lunch, head out for an afternoon game drive along the Great Ruaha River. The riverbanks are prime territory for elephant herds, hippos, and predators. Watch the sunset over baobab-studded hills.
Activities
Full day of game drives in the park's prime wildlife zones. The morning drive targets predators on the hunt -- Ruaha's lion prides are among the largest in East Africa. Afternoon drives explore the Mwagusi Sand River and Jongomero areas where wild dogs and leopards are regularly spotted.
Activities
Explore a different section of the park with morning and afternoon drives. Ruaha's mosaic of habitats -- from rocky outcrops to miombo woodland, sand rivers to open plains -- means every drive reveals different species. Over 570 bird species add colour to the landscape.
Activities
Final dawn game drive along the river before breakfast. Transfer to the airstrip for your flight back to Dar es Salaam or Arusha, or begin the road journey to Iringa.
