The 4 days mountkenya hike tour-rutundu route itinerary
Day 1 Nairobi -Nanyuki-lake rutundu.
Take 4 hours drive to the rich greens and slopes of mtkenya and after lunch further Drive to crater lake rutundu using a 4 wheel drive car as the road is bumpy and rocky,the driving distance is 74km from nanyuki town ,Lake Rutundu is among the scenic lake in mountkenya at the altitude of 3100m and with many history regarding mountkenya,where british prince william proposed kate middleton in 2010 while on their holiday,there is more of activities in this lake among them,hiking and trout fishing.overnight at the camps.
2rd day walk to L. Alice, passing via Rutundu bandas and L. Rutundu. 3 hours hike.
after breakfast leave rutundu camp and walk to lake alice which is the largest crater lake in mountkenya with an altitude of 3550m and which was discovered by raymond hook and prince Alice in 1935,while they were on their way attempting to climb moutkenya,the hikes is uphill,and with flowers like giant heathers,tussock grass and protea.The views of the mountkenya peaks can be seen from far.lake alice is sorounded by a cliff of 3850 m,where visitors will sleep beside the cliff with their tents camping.
Dinner and overnight at L. Alice.
3rd day walk from L. Alice to L. Ellis via Ithanguni hill, Giant billiards table and Mugi hill.
Lake ellis is the 3nd highest lake in mountkenya,but the 2nd largest ,after lake alice at the altitude of 3650m,and Erick dutton a british tourist was the 1st to visit in 1927.it is on the chogoria route side of mountkenya and is popular for fishing and the first day break when attempting to hike mountkenya on the chogoria route side.
The terraine is rocky and alpine scrub land,covered with tussock grass and un designed trails.giant billiards and mugi hills are seen once you folk up the hills.Dinner and overnight at the lake ellis camp.
4th day Descend down to chogoria gate and connect transport back to Nairobi.
Early morning after break fast start the journey to the nithi river that forms the nithi water fall,passing via the road head camp,where by after the photo session desend down to chogoria gate,with an adventure of the experience and of its kind, having seen 3 of the most famous Lakes up mt Kenya.
